The Fastrak Competition is the junior year CIBACS project. This is an individual project that tests our problem solving, creativity, time managment, and presentation skills. Each student is asked to participate in a minimum 10 hour internship in a profession that they would like to later pursue as their career. We are also required to create an online portfolio of our CIBACS career: this includes evidence, experience, and product documents. The product of this project is what we will be presenting to the judges. My product is a powerpoint presentation. I will go in depth about what my internship is,  who my mentor is, what I learned, and the different experiences I gained.

My internship took place at Synergy Physical Therapy

Mentor: Hiroki Yokoyama

What is it?: A physical-therapist-owned, orthopedic rehabilitation facility.

Location: 7451 Warner Avenue Suite A

Dear Judges,

Thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to be here and listen to my presentation about my internship. I interned with a physical therapist at Synergy Physical Therapy and Sports Performance. Synergy is a physical therapist-owned, orthopedic rehabilitation center. I enjoyed my time interning at Synergy and I realized after, how passionate I am about going into this field of work and I cannot wait to pursue this career in the future.

I was able to take away a lot of new knowledge and meaningful lessons from this internship. I had the chance to learn the basics about all the different types of therapy there are, but I also got a very in depth explanation about how each part works, how it works with the body, and the progressive healing process. I left with a feeling of gratitude towards my mentor and the other physical therapists at Synergy because I noticed how much they really do help people through hard accidents and injuries to get them back to their goals. Watching the patient’s reaction to when they started to progress through their healing process is something I will never forget.

I am currently in my third year of the CIBACS program here at Edison and each year I feel more and more confident in my presentation and working skills. I’m learning how to handle real life situations while at the same time I am figuring out who I am and what I want to really do with my life. I have become quite skillful at multi-tasking and working through difficult obstacles. I could not be more thankful for being apart of this program for the past three years and all that I have learned from it.

Thank you again for being here, and I thoroughly hope you enjoy my presentation.

Sincerely,

Ciera Guensler
